Anxiety is a pervasive mental health issue that affects millions of people worldwide, including a significant number of individuals in the UK. It’s therefore only natural to want to know what help is available for anxiety, given it is such a common, yet often, debilitating condition.
Understanding anxiety
Anxiety is a natural response to stress or danger. However, when it becomes chronic, or disproportionate, it can interfere with daily life, leading to symptoms like excessive worry, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and physical signs such as tension or a rapid heartbeat. Anxiety disorders, such as generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety, and panic disorder, can be debilitating if left untreated. Recognising the importance of early intervention and ongoing management, there are a range of comprehensive services, self-care tools and medication available to help individuals regain control of their lives.
Services we can offer
We offer a wide range and choice of services to meet the needs of those living with anxiety. These services aim to offer both immediate relief and long-term strategies for managing anxiety
A cornerstone of our own support offering, we provide access to a network of Anxiety UK Approved Therapists. Our members can benefit from discounted therapy services, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), counselling, and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR is particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with trauma-related anxiety, as it helps to process distressing memories and reduce their emotional impact. These therapy services are available through different formats, such as face-to-face, telephone, and online sessions, ensuring that support is accessible to as many people as possible.
One of the standout resources we provide is our unique and innovative TherapGuide®, an in-depth tool designed to help you find the right therapeutic approach for your own specific needs.
The tool provides detailed information on various forms of therapy, including CBT and EMDR, offering insights into how these therapies work, what to expect, and how they can help in managing anxiety. TherapGuide® is an invaluable resource for those considering professional help but unsure where to start. It helps users make informed decisions about the type of treatment that may be most beneficial for their condition, empowering them to take charge of their anxiety management journey.
We have curated a wide selection of self-help materials for those who may prefer to manage their anxiety independently or alongside professional treatment. These resources include books, workbooks, and audio guides, which provide practical strategies and coping mechanisms for dealing with anxiety on a day-to-day basis. The self-help resources are particularly beneficial for individuals who may not yet feel ready for therapy or those looking to complement their treatment with additional tools. By providing a variety of formats, we ensure you can find a method that suits your personal preferences and lifestyle.
Our membership scheme allows access to various exclusive benefits. Members can access discounted therapy sessions, a quarterly magazine, and a members-only area on the website. These resources offer ongoing support, allowing individuals to stay informed about new strategies for managing anxiety and engage with a community of like-minded people.
We have expanded our support through the provision of our to us service, which provides personalised support and information/signposting for anyone living with anxiety. We’ve over 50 years’ experience of providing support and have a personal interest in helping make the despair caused by anxiety, a thing of the past. Our friendly advisors are here to listen and help you find a way forward.
In addition to individual support, we offer anxiety management courses and Art for Anxiety Relief (AfAR) groups throughout the year.
Our six-week, therapist-led anxiety management taught course provides information, tips, tools, and strategies to manage anxiety. The course is based on the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
AfARnxiety is a six-week, hourly online course for people aged 18+, facilitated by artists with different styles/genres of art/creative activities. Designed to focus on the benefits of art in the management of anxiety, Art for anxiety relief is open to both members and non-members and is delivered via Zoom.
